Installation and troubleshooting

How do I install Wizards’ Club on an iPhone or iPad?

Open Wizards’ Club in Safari with a connection, tap the Share button, choose Add to Home Screen, leave Open as Web App switched on if your iPhone shows it, and tap Add. The icon on your Home Screen then opens the app full screen. There is nothing to download from the App Store. A website cannot install itself on an iPhone, so these taps are yours to make.

Before you start

  • Load the installed app online first. After adding the icon, open it with a connection and let it finish loading. Check offline use there; loading Safari alone does not prove that the Home Screen app is ready offline.
  • Use Safari. Apple’s instructions use Safari. Since iOS and iPadOS 16.4, other browsers can also offer Add to Home Screen in their share menu.
  • Not the browser inside a chat or social app. A link opened from a message often opens in that app’s own browser, which may not show the option. If you tap Install app there, Open in Safari or Copy the link takes you to Safari.
  • No account needed. The counter works in the installed app without signing in.

Add it to your Home Screen

  1. Open the Wizards’ Club app in Safari. In the app, Play → Install app opens a short window with these steps; Full guide and help there opens the complete guide on the iPhone & iPad tab.
  2. Open Safari’s page menu if the Share button is hidden, then tap Share: the square with an arrow pointing up. Its position depends on your device and browser layout.
  3. Scroll down the list and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. If Open as Web App appears, leave it switched on. Tap Add.
  5. From now on, open Wizards’ Club with the new icon on your Home Screen.

What the installed app does

  • It opens full screen, without Safari’s address bar.
  • It is the same app as in Safari, with the same counter and account features. New versions arrive by themselves (see update the app).
  • It may show you as signed out. Then sign in there once. Finish a game you started in Safari in Safari first, rather than expecting it on the Home Screen app.
  • The counter asks to keep the screen on, just as in Safari; the device can still refuse (see keep the screen on during a game).

Removing the icon

Before you remove the icon, open Play and check that it does not say Still to sync: or Needs attention. Removing the app can also delete this device’s table and changes that have not been sent. Results the server already accepted stay in your account.

If it does not work

  • Add to Home Screen is not in the list. In Safari, scroll to the bottom of the share menu, choose Edit Actions and add Add to Home Screen. If you opened the link inside another app, copy its address into Safari first.
  • The icon opens a normal browser tab. It was added without Open as Web App. Remove that icon and add it again with the switch on.
  • The installed app does not open without reception. It has not loaded completely with a connection yet. Open it once with reception.
  • The app looks out of date. See update the app or troubleshoot a stale interface.
